Wii Fit flexes to top sales at Japan retailer
Nintendo Co.’s new WiiFit title flexed to the top sales rank at Amazon Japan as consumers flocked to purchase the new product on release. On Dec. 1, WiiFit reached the No. 1 sales rank at Amazon Japan’s Video Games division. The fitness title includes the Wii Balance Board peripheral to facilitate more than 40 exercises,
including aerobics, yoga, and muscle training. In addition, the product yielded a review score of 4.5 out of 5 at the retailer from 87 user reviews.
Nintendo debuted WiiFit in July at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Santa Monica, CA. The product will be sold early next year at an undisclosed price. The fitness title is an entry that will allow the company to continue to expand into the casual games market. Previous casual titles include the bundled Wii Sports and Wii
Play. Nintendo in Oct. raised profit forecast estimates on strong demand for the Wii and Nintendo DS handheld. It expects to sell 17.5 million Wii units this business year.
